East Hartford Athletic Training
Mission Statement: East Hartford Athletic Training program is committed to providing high quality health care to our student athletes. As an Athletic Trainer, I provide care to injured athletes by preventing, treating and rehabilitating athletic injuries. By servicing the athletes daily and being involved with the coaches, physicians and physical therapists, athletic training affects the health care and well- being of the student- athlete to help them perform at an optimal level of competition. Our Athletic Training program also includes a clinical and educational experience to provide college students with the necessary knowledge to pursue a career as an Athletic Trainer.
Vision: The Athletic Training program at East Hartford High School provides services to the student athlete including prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Our program also prepares collegiate students with the knowledge and experience to become Certified Athletic Training (ATC) as set forth by the State of Connecticut Board of Certification requirements.
Scope of Sequence/ “Core Values”:
Respect- quality service to all without discrimination based on race, gender, athletic ability or any other differences
Total Athlete- the physical, emotional and mental needs of the student’s athlete are focused upon with our athletic training program
Mutual Cooperation- athletes, parents, coaches, physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainer working together to better the health of the students athlete
Dr. Veltri- Team sports medicine physician and orthopedic surgeon
Select Physical Therapy (East Hartford)- provide physical therapy rehabilitation services as well as educational opportunities for athletes and students
University of Connecticut- internship provide within the Athletic Training department for students finalizing Athletic Training course work to become a Certified Athletic Trainer
Central Connecticut State University- internship provide within the Athletic Training department for students finalizing Athletic Training course work to become a Certified Athletic Trainer
Megan Nye, ATC, LAT, works for Select Physical Therapy and has been the Athletic Trainer at East Hartford High School since December of 2018. She graduated from Westfield State University in May of 2018.Since graduation, she has been a poster award finalist at the Eastern Athletic Trainer’s Association and is presenting her research at the National Athletic Trainers Association Convention in 2019.
