It is a tremendous honor to be principal at a school with such a vast history of educating every student every day to the best of our abilities. Our people, students and staff alike, are why Synergy is a great choice for students to attend.
This year will be the ninth year I have been in East Hartford Public Schools. Prior to Synergy, my experiences in East Hartford include working at Woodland, Sunset Ridge Academy of Arts and World Languages, and the Central Office. In all of these places, I have been blessed to work with the best staff, students, and parents in the entire state of Connecticut. It is the great people of East Hartford who have prepared me to serve as the instructional leader at Synergy Alternative High School.
Students can expect three things when they attend Synergy Alternative High School:
(1) Rigorous academics--In order to prepare students to be college and career ready, challenging academic coursework is at the core of what we do. Synergy staff is gifted in transforming district curriculum into lively instruction that inspires students to excel. Where possible, coursework overlaps with applied work experiences.
(2) Applied experiences--Aside from learning in the classroom, Synergy students are encouraged to pursue internships and jobs that allow them to gain valuable experience to shape future careers. While Team Synergy is currently in the introductory stages of framing some career pathways, all students are being exposed to soft skills that are essential across college and career settings. Additionally, advisory classes regularly provide students with guidance as they navigate through the challenging period of adolescence. These applied experiences are key components of student success plans (SSPs) that are a student's roadmap for achieving their life goals.
(3) Social/Emotional Growth Opportunities--The period of adolescence is a tumultuous time for most students. Their ability to manage social situations and control their emotions is paramount for forging the teamwork, collaboration, and problem solving skills necessary for success after high school. Team Synergy regularly works with students to provide social/emotional growth opportunities. Positive relationships between staff and students is the foundation for this work.
It is the presence of these three elements that make our safe learning environment a special place for many students to find their path in life.  Across our day, data  guides all our decisions. Synergy staff is second to none when it comes to meeting your child's needs.
Yet our staff cannot do our work alone. We need our parents/guardians to be active members of our school community. Expect to hear about many events over the course of the year to celebrate our students' successes and solicit your input. Expect regular contact from our staff as we work to meet the needs of every student, every day. It is time to Synergize! Please let us know how we can help your son or daughter reach his/her fullest potential.
Thanks for your help making Synergy the pride of our community.
