At CIBA we pride ourselves on a positive, nurturing school climate that allows each student to develop and grow as knowledgeable, balanced, caring young people. To this end, CIBA is implementing the International Baccalaureate “Approaches to Learning” as the roadmap for helping students exemplify the “IB learner profile” below.

The IB Approaches to Learning are curriculum-based skills for success model that is common across all four IB Programmes from the Primary Years through the Diploma or Career Programmes. The Approaches to Learning, under the five broad categories of Communication, Research, Social, Thinking and Self-Management, are specifically taught and reinforced in each classroom at CIBA. It is through the mastery of these skills that students can embody the IB learner profile.

To better assist CIBA students in internalizing and using these valuable academic and life skills, we have made the ATLs our PBIS® (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) model, using the acronym CReSTS.



Students are recognized formally and informally for their mastery of elements of these characteristics. Correction, when necessary, is couched in the positive language of the CReSTS to help students mature and grow as self-reflective individuals.

The IB learner profile®

The aim of all IB Programmes is to develop internationally minded people, who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. The IB learner profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB World Schools. We believe these attributes, and others like them can help individuals and groups become responsible members of the local, national and global communities.

The Connecticut IB Academy (CIBA) produces learners who are:

v  Open-minded

v  Knowledgeable

v  Risk Takers

v  Thinkers

v  Caring

v  Communicators

v  Balanced

v  Principled

v  Reflective




For the school year commencing July 1, 2012, and each school year thereafter, the Principal of each District school shall establish a new committee or designate at least one existing committee that is responsible for developing and fostering a safe school climate and addressing issues related to bullying in the school. The committee must include at least one parent/guardian of a student enrolled in the school, appointed by the Principal.  Mr. Robert Spiller has been designated the CIBA Safe School Climate Specialist.  If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact the CIBA Main Office at 860-622-5590.
