In my Sophomore English class, I have been really focusing on argumentative writing with my students. They are learning how to write claims and counterclaims that specifically focus on the literature we are reading in class. They are also simultaneously working on independent reading projects: they are reading books and then writing about those books daily. Specifically, they focus on setting, plot, characters, and predictions.
In my Read 180, we are plugging along daily in order to practice this program with fidelity. After bellwork, we first spend 30 minutes on the Read 180 computer program, followed by 20 minutes of independent reading with writing logs, followed by 30 minutes in our Read 180 workbooks. The workbooks focus on a variety of reading strategies and includes lots of vocabulary practice words.
