Transportation Coordinator - George Simons (860) 622-5139

Bus Company: First Student

Free bus transportation is provided to students who are eligible based upon the transportation policy of the Board of Education. Free bus transportation, however, is not an unlimited right granted to students.  A student who violates any transportation rule or regulation may be disciplined in accordance with the student discipline policy of the East Hartford Board of Education. The regulations for the conduct of students riding on school buses include the following:

  1. Students shall at all times be courteous to the bus driver and follow his/her instructions. The bus driver is in charge of the bus and all of the students riding on it.
  2. No student may ride on a bus other than the one to which he/she is assigned.  Riders are to carry and present a student bus pass when requested.  Bus passes are not transferable.
  3. Students must not stand on the traveled portion of the highway while awaiting the bus. Students should get on and off the bus only when the bus is fully stopped. They must take a seat when they enter and remain seated while the bus is in motion.
  4. Students shall enter or leave the bus only at the front door except in cases of emergency. When entering or leaving the bus, students should avoid crowding or in any way disturbing others. If a student MUST cross the street to get on or off, she/he MUST cross in front of the bus.  The bus wil not proceed until the student is safely off the traveled portion of the street.
  5. Students must not at any time extend their arms or head out of the bus windows.
  6. Students shall assist in keeping the bus clean and orderly. Papers or other objects may not be thrown on the bus or out the windows. Students are to refrain from causing a disturbance which may distract the bus driver from proper and safe operation of the school bus.
  7. Students who have violated any of above regulations shall, when so instructed by the driver, report promptly to school authorities.

Bus students can be assigned a seat. They must sit in the assigned seat on a daily basis until the end of the school year. Re-assignment of seats will be left up to the bus driver and school administrators.

In order to ride another bus due to family reasons, students must bring a note from home. The administrators will write a letter to the bus driver to give student permission to ride another bus. No student(s) will be allowed to ride another bus without prior approval.

The Safety Rules include the following:

  1. Get on and off the bus in an orderly manner
  2. Stay seated while the bus is moving, with your feet on the floor.
  3. No pushing, shoving or fighting on the bus, or at your stop.
  4. Keep the noise level down so the driver can safely operate the bus in traffic.
  5. Keep your head, hands, arms, and everything else inside the bus.
  6. Cross the street 10 feet in front of the bus where the driver can see you.
  7. Do not eat, drink or chew gum on the bus.
  8. Keep all harmful objects off the bus.
  9. Keep the aisle clear and do not litter, write on or damage the bus in any way.
  10. Follow the driver's instructions.
