The East Hartford High School Music Department offers a wide range of course offerings, including General Music classes, Advanced Placement and performing ensembles.
General Music Classes:
Band for Beginners, Concert Choir, Guitar 1 and Piano 1 are open to all students. These electives require no previous musical experience.
Guitar 2 and Piano 2 are open to students who have successfully earned a grade of "C" or higher in the corresponding level 1 class.
Advanced Placement Music Theory is offered for serious music students. Instructor approval is required and college credit may be earned by those who score well on a standardized exam. Click here to visit the AP Music Theory Wikispace page.
Band and Orchestra are open to all students who have previous experience on a woodwind, brass, percussion or string instrument. All participants must be able to read music and instructor approval is required for registration. Attendance at performances is mandatory.
Next Edition and Treble Choir are select vocal ensembles. Participants are chosen by audition and instructor approval is required for registration. Attendance at performances is mandatory.
Co-Curricular Ensembles and Activities:
Additional ensembles often exist and are created to utilize the talents of students within the Music Department. These are generally select ensembles and are chosen by audition. These ensembles include:
Color Guard (participants must also be enrolled in Band or Orchestra)
Jazzappella (show choir)
Jazz Band (participants must also be enrolled in Band or Orchestra)
Upscale (a capella ensemble)
